We’re happy to announce that we closed a loan with Roka Realty, LLC on June 8th, 2017. The Build Fund lent $374,794 to Roka for the acquisition of a vacant and unused building that will help support Roka’s mission to create an urban farm that utilizes hydroponics to efficiently and cost effectively grow highly nutritious organic food to feed the local communities in which it operates while having a minimal carbon footprint”. Roka will be hiring five low-income neighborhood residents to fill positions at this facility.
The Build Fund partnered with Farmers Bank on this project, and more than $1.5 million was invested. New equipment is going into their building, and, according to the owner Chad Brandenburg, plants are already growing.
See the slideshow above for some early photos of the facility. We’ll update when we have more.
